The land

The tranquillity of the burial ground at Rotherfield Greys, just outside Henley, is typical of the surrounding landscape of the Chilterns. Unhurried, tranquil and private, it offers something gentler. A place of escape, away from it all.

We are planting new native woodland across the areas where burials take place, so one day this place will be a thriving mature woodland with open glades and rides, shrub margins and deeper woodland shade.

Space to reflect and remember

An unhurried and private place away from the hustle of daily life. Somewhere to remember, replenish and reflect. A place of peace and solitude, when you need it, and love.

Spend time in nature, experience the weather and watch the seasons change. And for those at rest here, it offers a simple return to nature.

Quick Questions

Do we need to use a funeral director?

There is no legal requirement in the UK to use a funeral director. The professionals are there to support you and help you achieve what you want to do. A good funeral director will provide the help and support you need when you need it.

What’s to stop people from building on the land?

Use of the land is restricted to natural burials by covenants contained in its 99-year lease. In the future, the land will become a thriving mature native woodland.

Can we buy a double plot?

Yes, but not adjacent plots due to the ongoing development of the woodland. We will endeavour to locate as near as is practically possible when the time comes.

What type of coffins can be used?

Coffins should be made from and lined with natural, biodegradable materials. No plastics, MDF, or chipboard should be used.

Is embalming allowed?

We can’t accept embalmed bodies for burial unless there are exceptional circumstances. Cremated remains contain no residue from embalming chemicals and can therefore be interred in the burial ground.

Visiting the burial ground

We recommend that before you make the decision to purchase a burial or interment plot, you go to visit the burial ground, to make sure it is the right place for you and your family.

If you are planning to visit the burial ground, please be aware the main gate is kept locked but the adjacent pedestrian gate is always open (the burial ground is 500 metres from this gate). If you wish to drive up to the burial ground, please call us before visiting for access instructions.
